FOR a time, he was the world’s most enigmatic young man – a haunted, gaunt figure known only as “the Piano Man”. Now, nearly two years after the breakdown which landed him in a psychiatric clinic in Britain, the Piano Man has a name and a new purpose in life.

Andreas Grassl, 22, has escaped from the Bavarian village he hated, to being a face in the crowd of cosmopolitan Basel in Switzerland, it has emerged.

Here he is free to pursue the French literature he adores, and to live the gay lifestyle that was unthinkable amid the farmers’ sons he grew up with.

His friends say the catalyst for his strange journey to Britain, a spell in a psychiatric clinic and on the front pages of newspapers around the world, was a shattered gay love affair.

Q I AM 15 and I’m gay. Recently, I met this guy from Essex.

We mainly spoke online and through My Space and stuff. After a while, I told him I liked him and he said he liked me too, which made me over the moon.

A few days later, I asked him out. Basically, I fell head over heels in love with him.

But the problem is, I get bullied in school for being gay and I know I was stupid to admit it.

I have no-one to turn to because my parents don’t know I’m gay and neither do my teachers.

I hate to admit to my friends that bullying and coming out bothers me.

When we published our Spring Movie Preview, a lot of readers were downright horrified at the lack of gay or gay-friendly films heading to theater screens across the nation. So when we took a gander at the summer lineup and saw that Adam Sandler’s I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry is pretty much all there is blockbuster-wise to entice a gay boy into a theater during the hot months (besides air conditioning), we decided to take matters into our own hands.

We picked some of this summer’s biggest films, added a sprinkle of fairy dust to both the plotlines and the posters, and — Voila! — a schedule of gay summer blockbusters that is the stuff of gay cinematic dreams.

“The Cockpit, Leeds — yes, it is a shit venue, with crap sound. But everyone who works there are fucking ace and the Leeds crowd is insane. One of the downsides of the place is the lack of showers.

“The show is great, but having had something bad to eat yesterday, I end up having to run off-stage to the can twice to keep from shitting myself. So much for keeping up ‘tough guy’-looks.

“Now — as we were driving up the alley to the venue earlier in the day, I notice an advertisement for ‘Sauna, Spa, and Massage.’ A bright rainbow flag hanging next the advert, so I figure, ‘OK it’s a gay sauna”. Though, to tell the truth, I really haven’t got much knowledge of what the hell a ‘gay sauna’ even is, it registers and all my little prejudice cogs and wheels start ticking.

A WOMAN’S email to the help desk of Telecom New Zealand was rejected by a computer system because her name was Gay and “inappropriate for business-like communication”.

Gay Hamilton, from the northern South Island town of Nelson, said while she was actually gay, she was concerned that the country’s biggest public company was spending its time and resources on trifling issues, the Herald on Sunday reported.

“If they do have to put content filters on, then maybe they should ensure that it only gets genuinely abusive words,” she said.

Edward Heath concealed his homosexuality, it was said, to maintain his political career. Alan Duncan, Shadow Trade Secretary, says times have changed.

On 29 July 2002, I gave an interview in The Times stating un- equivocally that I was gay. It was the best thing I’ve ever done.

When I came out, I’d been an MP for 10 years. I’d always known that, one day, honesty was going to be the best policy. But I didn’t want to make an announcement about my sexuality when I was a just a junior MP, because all I would have been remembered for was being “the Tory gay”.

I wanted to make the announcement when I had established myself more, and when I could make my announcement more relevant to the direction I thought the party needed to take. As it happened, it worked perfectly. I decided to do it, and when to do it, although of course I did tell the party what I was going to do so they weren’t caught by surprise.

I’ve been encouraged to share personal narratives about what I’ve learned from ex-gay therapy/ministry. While I’ve never experienced being ex-gay personally, my unique perspective affords me a great deal of “inside” anecdotal information that could be valuable to folks on any side of the issues surrounding ex-gay therapy/ministry.I hope that folks who read XGW will take this series as an opportunity to better understand the language and position of those in the ex-gay movement. I understand (not fully, of course) how offensive the very idea of ex-gay therapy/ministry is to so many of you who may read this. And yet, I know beyond all doubt that we ALL have things to learn from one another and that by at least attempting to understand a different perspective we are each able to more effectively communicate our own. The one and only path I’d like to steer all of us towards is that of love and understanding. I don’t mind adding that I personally believe the heavier burden of understanding lies with those on the ex-gay side of the issue.

ELIZABETH, N.J. – A judge handling the contentious divorce of the nation’s first openly gay governor and his estranged wife urged them on Friday to use “common sense” during their split.

Judge Karen Cassidy also called former Gov. James E. McGreevey’s sexual orientation insignificant to the case.

The courtroom session with McGreevey and Dina Matos McGreevey was their first public appearance together since he resigned and told the world he was “a gay American” more than two years ago.
